If you have been researching on how to get your business website started, most likely you have come across the term DOMAIN NAME.
A domain name is the website URL that visitors on the inter et or social media will use to find you. For example, my domain name is Sheila-Cook.com.
Choosing Your Domain Name
When choosing a domain name for your business site, it is important to consider the following:
Does It describe my business or contain my business name? Your domain name should include your business name, an abbreviated version of your business name, or describe your product or service.
Is it available to purchase? While you may have thought of the perfect domain name, someone else may have already purchased this domain name. Domain names are available at first come, first serve by the provider. Depending on the provider, domain name prices are typically under $20 a year. However, premium domain names may be available for hundreds and even thousands of dollars. So it is important to choose a domain name within your budget. On a side note, many premium domain names do already have domain authority and back links – which will help your website gain ranking faster in the search engines.
Is your domain name short and memorable? The recommended length for the domain name you register is 6-14 characters. Dot coms are always better than dot net and any other extensions (dot org, dot net, dot biz, etc). If the exact domain name you are interested in is available only in a different extension besides dot com, it is NOT recommended that you purchase and register that domain name with a dot net or other extension.
How & Where Do I Register My Domain name?
There are many domain registries available on the internet. It is important to find a reputable registry who is not just some fly by night seller. We recommend Bluehost, Godaddy, and Hostmonster for domain name purchases.
